Abstract: Studies were carried out on photosynthetic characteristics of English-walnut using a portable infrared gas analyser (CI-301PS). The results indicated that the light compensation and light saturation points of English-walnut were 40 and 1610 μmol/(m2·s) respectively. The optimum temperature of Pn was at 27℃. The curve of diurnal variation of English-walnut showed two peaks, and there was obvious "midday rest". Single peaks appeared in the curve of seasonal variation of Pn of English-walnut, with the peak occurring in May. The diurnal change of Pn in English-walnut was influenced by intercellular CO2 concentration, leaf temperature, stomata conductance, photosynthetic available radiation, and transpiration rate. There were significant differences in Pn of English-walnut cultivars.
