Abstract: Effects of boron-deficiency on the growth of soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] Bragg cv., its supernodulating mutant nts 382 plants, and also on nitrogenase activity of nodules were studied using solution culture method. The plants grown in B-free medium showed B-deficiency symptoms first in roots, and then in shoots, including a decrease in the height and weight of the shoots and a decrease in the length and dry weight of roots. The content of B in roots and shoots decreased markedly. Also B content in nodules of the B-deficient plants decreased. Under B-deficiency sttress, the growth of nodules was inhibited, therefore their nitrogenase activity reduced. The results indicated that B was required for the growth and development of plants and nodules, and was important for the nitrogen fixation of the nodules.
