Abstract: Partial diallcl cross, controlled pollination and natural field evaluation were adopted in this study to evaluate six middle-late and six early sorghum sterile lines, for their combining ability, stigma vigor and other major characters. The results indicated that, of all the middle-late lines, V4A performed best so far as the general combining ability, stigma vigor, sterility, mature period and resistance to head smul were concerned.Among the six early lines, 1105A gave the best performance in general combining ability, head length, 1000-grain weight, and sterility. It is hereby recommended that both the above-mentioned lines can be utilized for spring sowing in the middle-late mature and early mature areas.
