Comparison of Growth Characters of different Forage grasses and Alfalfa Varieties

Abstract

Abstract: The growth characters of different forat; gasses and alfalfa varieties were studied in this trial.The results indicated the growth sequences of alfalfa were sowing in the end of April, emergence 10-14 days after sowing, squaring in the end of June, flowering in 20 July and maturing in the end of August or in the beginning of September. Forage grasses grow slowly than alfalfa in the same sowing date with alfalfa. The reproduction rate varied in different cultivars and the reproduction rate of alfalfa were faster than forage grasses. The reproduction rate of FGC -301 and FGC -201 were faster among 4 alfalfa cultivars, thereproduction rate of orchard grass was fastest among 4 forage grasses. Zhaodong alfalfa, perennial rye-grass and reed fescue had weak disease-resistance and lower surviving rates among 9 cultivars. In general, FGC-301 and FCC-ZOI in alfalfa varieties and awnless brume were edapted in Hohhot.
