Abstract: When Gushi chickens were 4 weeks old, they were divided into two groups, one of which was raised in cage and another in freedom. When they growed to 18 weeks old, their body weight, body size and carcass index were measured. When they reached to 42 weeks old, their egg quality was measured. The results showed that only the dressed carcass index was significantly different in the two different rear ways. For the egg quality,Only the egg weight and eggshell thickness presented remarkable difference(P>0.05) between the two groups. The difference of other indexes were not remarkable. In the condition of freedom raising, the cellulase was higher than that in captive caged rearing, but the difference of total protedytic enzyme, trypinase and pepsin was not significant between the two raising ways.
