Abstract: The expansion characteristics and their relationships ith the two kinds of parents were analyzed through F3,BC11F2, BC12F2 of 20 normal corn @ popcorn crosses made from 5 normal corn inbreds and 4 popcorn lines. The results showed that normal corn germplasms had great effect on the expansion characteristics of the offsprings from normal corn @ popcorn crosses. Proper normal inbreds selecting and their cross-making with popcorn inbreds play a great role in popcorn breeding in this condition. All the expansion characters were low, but they were greatly improved through only one generation backcrossing to popcorn inbreds. The highest values of 3 expansion characters for BC11F2 and BC12F2 were 750, 2200, 1100 compared with F3( its value was considered 100), which basically reached to the expansion indexes of popcorn. There was no significant difference between BC11F2 and BC12F2.
