Abstract: The direct genetic effects and the maternal genetic effects of economic traits in new dam line(D Ⅵ)pigs of China were estimated by DFREML.Estimates of h 2d vs h 2m for NOBT(total number of piglets born)and NOBA(number of piglets born alive)were 0.12 vs 0.10 and 0.15 vs 0.16,respectively.Estimates of h2d and h2m for NOBA were higher than that of NOBT.Estimates of r dm were negative for NOBT and NOBA.Estimates of h2d vs h2m for daily gain, backfat thickness, conformation traits, dressing percentage and lean meat percentage were 0.26~0.49 vs 0.21~0.41,respectively.Their estimates of r dm were positive.Estimates of h2d were higher than that of h2m for these traits. The results indicated that the maternal genetic effects were negative to the improvement of reproductive traits, but were positive to the improvement of growth, conformation and meat traits.
