Abstract: AGPase gene, the critical starch sy nthesis enzyme gene, was transformed into hig h-class rice No.35, 38, 39, 41, 42 by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation and fertile transgenic rice plants were obtained. The results of PCR indicated that the foreign gene had been integ rated into the rice genome. The research showed that 1000-grain weight of transgenic plants was obviously improved, but the starch content of the rice was little changed.

Key words: AGPase gene, Ag robacterium tumefaciens, Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), The starch content of rice, 1000-g rain weight
