Abstract: Addition of La3+,Ce3+ to the culture solution deficient in Ca2+ is benificial to the growth of cucumber and Chinese cabbage, relieves the sym-ptom of Ca2+ starvation, increases the fresh weight, plant height, and the amount of chlorophyll and protein, La3+,Ce3+can inhibit the increase of the activity of alkaline phosphatase in root due to calcium starvation, The readdition of La3+,Ce3+can also inhibit the continuous increase of alkaline phosphatase activity under the condition of Cat+starvation for several days, The effects of Lag+,Ce3+are similar to Ca2+.

Key words: Lanthanum, Cerium, Calcium, Alkaline phosphatase
