Abstract: On the basis of many years research work at home and abroad, utilizing the gene br-2 in maize controlling the dwarf characteristic, according to the principle of gene recombination, through various kinds of cross manner and selection, br-2 was recombined with some genes controlling desirable agronomic characters, such as disease resistance, lodging resistance and narrow leaf, and the disadvantages of original br-2 inbred lines were overcome, including short internode, wide and dense leaves, high barrenness and worse pollination, 11 number of better br-2 inbred lines and a single-cross hybrid variety (Jidan No, 20) had been breeded, the single-gene dwarf characteristics used to the research on maize breeding made new progress.

Key words: br-2 gene, Double-cross hybrid, Select in direction
