Abstract: Hetao melon is the famous product of Inner Mongolia. It is warmly received by customers at home and abroad. But its harvest period is short, and preserving is very difficult. In order to develop domestic and foreign markets for selling Hetao melon,the preserving method should be researched. In 1986 and 1987, we carried out twice experiments preserving Hetao melon with electrostatic means.(In the paper, the results of our experiments were given).The Hetao melons were placed in a continuously air-discharging space during thirty days, undamaged melons were 80% by affection of ozone, space-charge, and electric field,but 70% of CK melons became mouldy and putrid when stored only in 7 days. The electrostatic preserving method has many merits, simple equipment, cheap cost, easy operation, and nonpollution, etc. This new method for preserving melon will hold out a bright prospect.
