Abstract: To asses the genetic basis of China glandiess cotton varieties,a study with 30 varieties as carried out in 4 places respectively. The genetic basis of glandiess cotton population has been largely broadened through more than decades improvement, some special varieties, such as Zhongwu 151,have tn'en hrone in China, but even so,the genetic divergence among the glandless varieties is still less than that among the glanded one.Five groups clustered by hierachical clustering method from 30 varieties show that as for the genetic divergence there is no distinet difference between Chinese cotton varieties and America cotton, and no obvious relation between genetic divergence and their geographical distribution.A new method of trait classification was proposed in this paper. Also, the application of this new method to cacularion of genetic distance was discussed.
