Abstract: The growth and ionic absorption of Salicornia bigelovii and S. herbacea, both of which belong to genera Salicornia, were examined under sea water treatment. The growth was promoted in response to increased sea water concentration. The maximum yield was obtained under 100% sea water treatment. Na contents of the shoot of both species increased conspicuously in response to increased sea water concentration. Potassium (K)absorption was suppressed by Na absorption and accumulation. Calcium (Ca) content of S. bigelovii was high in pure water treatment. It became lower in sea water treatments. Sea water treatments tended to decrease Cacontent gradually. On the contrary, Ca content of S. herbacea was low in pure water treatment. Sea water treatments tended to increase Ca contents gradually. For magnesium (Mg) absorption, the tendency was similar as in the case of Ca. N and C in the shoot tended to decrease in response to sea water treatments.
