Abstract: The results of study on the manganese status in soils of Xinxinang district of Henan province indicated that the maid soil type in this district was the yellow fluviogenic soilderived from the alluvium of the Yellow River, and the soils were very poor in manganese, in85,25% of soil symples the active manganese was below the critical values(100ug*g-1. Near1y forty percent of total manganese existed in residual fraction and crystalline iron oxide fraction, and only 0.57% in exchangeable fraction, but nearly forty percent in manganese oxidefraction which although could be activated, but very slowly be absorbed by the plants. So fertilization with manganese can increase yield of soybean, wheat, especially legume. Under thepresent condition of agricultural culture, fertilization with manganese in sandy soils is of benefit to legume such as soybean.
