Abstract: The article approached parents selecting method for multi-target crop breeding by adopting AHP(Analytica1 Hierarchy Process) and effectiveness function.Taking maize as example, we established Synthetical Selecting Function in Multi-target Crop Breeding, and analysed 16 inbred strains from varieties experimented with in North China spring maize region in 1990.The results showed that new varietties combined by the inbred strains whose synthetical selecting function values ranked among the first 6 places had higher outputs than variety Nong Da 60 (ck), which explained the effectiveness of selecting function in crop breeding. This method has merits of simple principle, easy calculation, and combination of breeder's knowledges and experiences with quantitative analysis of system engineering, and has an advantage over plural statistical methods such as selecting index and typical interrelation.Application of the method to crop breeding can improve breeding effect and is of important theoretical and practical significance.
