Abstract: A replacement series study in pots was conducted to evaluate the effect of weedy rice WR03-12 on root and yield of cultivated rice Shennong 265. It indicated that weedy rice could decrease the indexes of root morphology and physiology of Shennong 265 including root weight, root volume, ratio of root to shoot, sap bleeding rate, absorption area, oxidizing ability per gram or per plant at different growth stages because of weedy rice had powerful competition. The more density of the weedy rice, the more decline of the above. It result the decline of rice yield. As a whole, one of the main reasons causing yield loss of cultivated rice was the decreasing of the root morphology and root activity for competition cultivated rice with weedy rice.
