Abstract: Mid-stage effluent of ammonium sulfite method is different from other industrial waste-water because of its abundant nutrients and less toxicity. The direct drainage would lead to both pollution of environment and waste of resources.A field experiment was conducted to study the treated effect by soil-plant system, effect on crop yields and economic benefit of irrigation. The results showed that the removal ratios of CODcr,total N,total P reached above 86 %,60 % and 90 %separately. The growth of crop was increased markedly, and yields improved from 11.56 % to 47.65 % after the application of mid-stage effluents. With mid-stage effluent irrigation, per hektare soils can treat with 19 200 m3 wastewater, save 17 280 yuan for treating expenses,3 359 yuan for fertilizer and gain 41842 yuan economic benefits, production value reach 28 893 yuan. Therefore,it is feasible to use paper making waste water as irrigation water. The extravasate can be collected and used on larger lands.
