Abstract:
The properties of moisture absorption and retention of gum in seed of Nicandra physaloides ( L. ) Gaertn(NPGG) were studied by controlling the relative humiditiy of the desiccator. For 48 h test, the moisture absorpt ion rateand moisture retaining rate were 35% and 25. 42%. Comparing with the commonly used humectants for cosmetic, glycerol, hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol( PEG10000), the moisture absorption rate under conditions of 20.81% relative humidity during 48 h was as follow: NPGG> hyaluronic acid> glycerol> PEG10000??NPGG showed good perfor??mance both in moisture absorption and moisture retaining test. Its capabilities of moisture absorption and retention werebetter than that of hyaluronic acid.Kinetic analysis of absorption about these two moisturizers showed that the second??or??der model of adsorption kinetic equat ion could characterize the absorption process very well and the relation coefficients all were higher than 0.999??
