Abstract:
To investigate the hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic effects of cyclodextrin glucanotransferase( CGTase)on blood glucose levels in alloxan??induced diabetic rats. Purified CGTase was administrated to alloxan??induced diabeticrats either by oral administration or intraperitoneal injection for consecutive 10 d. Fasting glucose levels in blood samplesof the experimental animals on 2nd, 6th and 10th day and body weights were assayed to assess the bioactivity of CG Tase. The CGTase showed no obvious effects on fasting blood glucose level in alloxan??induced diabetic rats by oral administration neither at a dosage of 100 or 200 mg/ kg per day. On the contrary, when administrated by intraperitoneal injection at various dosages, e. g., 0??1, 1??0 and 10??0 mg/ kg per day, the CGTase decreased significantly the blood glucose levels in the chemically??induced diabet ic rats, and the decreased ratio for each dosage was 45,4%, 51,2%, 43,1%, respectm.
