Abstract: In order to decrease the amount of fomesafen in soil,a high efficiency degradation strain BX3 was screened from the activated sludges by enrichment culture. The strain was preliminary identified as Stenotrophomonas acidaminiphila according to its colony morphology, physiological and biochemical characteristics and 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis. Meanwhile, the growth characteristics and degradation characteristics of strain BX3 were preliminary studied. The optimum conditions of fomesafen degradation were as follows: concentration of fomesafen culture solution of 100 mg /L, incubation temperature of 30 ℃ and pH value of 6 - 7. The result shows that strain BX3 had strong fomesafen degradation capacity under the optimum conditions. The removal efficiency of fomesafen could reach more than 80% after incubation of 5 days. The strain BX3 was a suitable candidate in bioremediation of fomesafen-contaminated soil.
