Abstract:
The phy siolog ical-biochemical characteristics of Welsh onion(Allium fistulosum L.) seed under ultra-low moisture content (MC)were studied. The results showed that Welsh onion seed had different storage effects according to its storage temperature and its moisture content. The treatment of MC 2.8% w as not injurious to Welsh noio n seed after 11-year′s storage at 20℃.It did not induce any sig nificant change either in seed viabili ty or in seed vigor. The activities of dehydrogenase and SOD in seed still remained well.Electric conductivity value indicated that the membrane system of this treatment had good integ rity. The treatments of MC 2.8% and MC 5.3% kept seeds comparatively viable and vigorous af ter 13 years at 0℃,w hile those of MC 7.4% and MC 2.6% made seed′s vigor lost completely. This means germplasm of Welsh o nion can be preserved well by proper ult ra-dry storage.
