Abstract: Research was done to improve the chilling resistance of cucumber seedlings, on the basis of plant cross一adaptation in stress, by poikilothermic and desiccation treatments forgerminating seed, and to examine the effect of the seed treatments on seedlings.Poikilothermic hardening, natural desiccation and PEG desiccation treatments all improved seedling resistance to chill, and increased the activity of SOD and peroxidasePOX). But newband of POX isoenzyme was not found. Seed treatments all increased the total content ofchlorophyll, the content of chlorophyll a, and the fresh and dry weight of the aerial part, enhanced the seedling vigor and improved the quality of seedlings.
