Abstract: Ethylene responsive factors(ERF)transcription factors primary exist in many kinds of plants, they play an important role in plant biotic and abiotic stress responses by recognition and binding the different cis acting element. In this review,we introduce the structure features and functional characterization of the ERF transcription factors, possible regulatory mechanism in plant biotic and abiotic stress responses and discuss the future directions of studies on the ERF transcription factors in plants.

Key words: ERF transcription factors, Transcriptional regulation, Stress response, Signal transduction pathway
