Abstract: Gastrointestinal nematodes infection restricts performance of ruminants.Although repeated use of anthelmintic drugs worldwide has acquired significant effects on controlling infection, the risk of drug resistant and residues in foods are prevalent and harmful to human health and sustainable agriculture development. Therefore, higher cost of producing anthelmintic drugs and concerns of food safety urge researchers to exploit alternative strategies. Many studies have identified that tannins-rich plants could decrease fecal egg counts, worm burden and fecundity. This review focused on effects of gastrointestinal nematodes infection on nutrients metabolism, and mechanisms of tannins on gastrointestinal nematodes resistance in ruminants.

Key words: Nutritional modulation, Ruminant, Gastrointestinal nematodes, Plant-derived tannins
